Athlete Development

St Patrick's College Sport has a focus on providing opportunities for the student athlete to develop their athletic capabilities. The athlete development initiatives are implemented throughout the sporting programs and are designed to improve the movement competency, coordination and athletic performance of an individual.

The College has a full gymnasium to complement the sporting program and help support the health and fitness of students and staff. The Head of Strength and Conditioning oversees the running of the gymnasium and provides both individual and sports specific gym programs. Students are able to take advantage of these professionally developed strength and conditioning programs related to the sports they participate in at the College.

SPC SPORT - STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING PROGRAMS

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM – YEARS 5 AND 6

The Years 5 and 6 Physical Development Program has been designed within the HPE curriculum to develop the fine motor skills of a student and improve overall physical activity levels. By improving the movement efficiency and fitness levels of students we are aiming to promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the resulting physical, psychological and social health benefits.

ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (ADP) – YEARS 7-10

The Athletic Development Program (ADP) is tailored for students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. The aim of the ADP is to provide strength and conditioning support for the student athlete and enhance our overall sporting program. Students will undertake modified activities based on age and competency in areas such as speed development, plyometrics, aerobic training, muscular strength, and muscular power. Participation in the ADP is strongly encouraged for any aspiring ‘A’ or future 1st team athlete.

1st TEAM PERFORMANCE PROGRAMS

All College 1st sporting teams have access to a professionally designed preseason and in-season strength and conditioning program. Specific field sports such as 1st XI Football, 1st XV Rugby and 1st XVIII AFL undertake a performance driven program which encompasses strength, speed, power, and conditioning, as well as wellness monitoring, GPS load monitoring, and education sessions.

Students who play 1st team sports are closely monitored to ensure they are remaining injury resilient and able to perform their best when representing the College in the AIC weekly sporting fixtures.

GENERAL USER PROGRAM

Students not in the ADP or 1st team performance programs at the college also have access to strength and conditioning within the College gymnasium. The Head of Strength and Conditioning oversees a general use program to enhance general wellbeing and athletic ability. This includes access to professionally designed rehabilitation programs for injuries.
