APATA Performing Arts Student of the Year

This morning we received the wonderful news that Jackson Hughesman (Year 11) was awarded the Australian Performing Arts Student of the Year Award. This is a national award presented by the Australian Performing Arts Teachers Association (APATA) which is Australia’s uniting body for teachers and educators in performing arts.

The following comments from APATA give an idea of the talent that was judged in this award.

“Congratulations to all who entered or were nominated by champions in the community for the Australian Performing Arts Teachers Association (APATA) 2021 National Awards Program. The high calibre of applications, dedication and passion for each and everyone’s vocation was heartfelt and exceptional. The judging committee have commented on several occasions that the outstanding applications received this year has been truly inspiring.”

We are very proud of Jackson and his achievements and I am sure that he would also agree that it is also testimony to the great work of our Performing Arts teachers at the College and the program and opportunities that they offer. Jackson Hughesman - 2021 APATA National Award for Performing Arts Student of the Year.

Jackson is not only an extremely talented singer, actor, and composer, he also works extremely hard to improve these skills and mentor others.

Recognised in his community theatre organisation, Jackson also prioritised his school’s choir, theatre and musical productions.

Other students have lifted and improved just from the opportunity to work with Jackson, and this has seen the whole music and theatre program of the school improve greatly. While he loves working on stage, he is equally satisfied working behind the scenes, including publicity, stage managing and even taking the role of assistant director in the school’s latest musical.

Jackson has a big year ahead, preparing to play the lead role of Gomez in the St Patrick’s College musical production of ‘The Adam’s Family’. When Jackson graduates from St Patrick's College, he is aiming to study Musical Theatre at Griffith University.

"The judging committee deeply admired your passion and love of the performing arts and eagerly look forward to following your career and the road ahead as you continue to follow your dreams and nurture your career in the years of come." ~ Australian Performing Arts Teachers Association
