Public Speaking

The skills inherent in Public Speaking are highly valued at St. Patrick's College. We believe that the ability to speak confidently and persuasively to groups of people is an important skill, which can translate to success in many areas of life.

St. Patrick's young men are encouraged to participate in this activity at a variety of levels. Debating and Public Speaking are contested within the College with Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitions staged in conjunction with Inter-House events and our College Open Day. Students in Years 5 and 6 can compete in the Brisbane Independent School (BIS) Competition. Secondary students regularly compete in competitions including, but not limited to, Lions Youth of the Year, Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition and the Plain English Speaking Award.
