I am writing this report from Melbourne where I am attending the EREA Congress with Tim Kenny, Janet Garside and Jackie Upton. The purpose of the 2018 Congress is to gather representatives from EREA communities across Australia and give them an opportunity to:
• engage in dialogue about the experiences of EREA since the last Congress (2013);
• identify and celebrate the significant areas of growth and transformation within EREA;
• vision the new horizons for EREA within the context of the broader Australian Church.

I am writing this report from Melbourne where I am attending the EREA Congress with Tim Kenny, Janet Garside and Jackie Upton. The purpose of the 2018 Congress is to gather representatives from EREA communities across Australia and give them an opportunity to:
• engage in dialogue about the experiences of EREA since the last Congress (2013);
• identify and celebrate the significant areas of growth and transformation within EREA;
• vision the new horizons for EREA within the context of the broader Australian Church.
The Congress finished on Sunday afternoon. Over the time there were many interesting sessions based around the Charter Touchstones and facilitated by many external expert commentators. The information gathered from these sessions will allow EREA to set its priorities into the future.
Next week, our College has the great pleasure of hosting Mr Nigel D’Souza (St Patrick’s High School, Asansol) and Mr Ravi Victor (St Vincent’s High School, Asansol). Both principal’s will be with us for the week and will take the opportunity to meet with many of our staff and students as well as visit other EREA schools and some of Brisbane’s landmarks. We will welcome them with a special assembly on Tuesday.
We received the student NAPLAN reports yesterday morning. We are currently pursuing the student and cohort results to look for information and trends over time that will assist us to learn and make any necessary adjustments to our programs etc. The reports will be forwarded as soon as possible.
During last Tuesday’s assembly, we recognised the great work done by so many of our staff and students within the cultural dimension of the College. It was wonderful to see so many young men be recognised for their talents and contribution to the life of the College. It also underlined how fortunate we are to have so many staff who are talented teachers, coaches, conductors and performers and are prepared to offer much of their time to give our young men quality coaching and performing or competition opportunities.
Our Year 12 students undertook the Queensland Core Skills (QCS) Test last Tuesday and Wednesday. The tests are significant to students who wish to receive an Overall Position (OP) Score to be able to gain entry into further tertiary study. They are used to rank schools and scale student results. There are four tests that span across both days. They are quite taxing, and I would like to congratulate each young man for his efforts in the preparation sessions over the year as well as on the days of the tests. They certainly appeared to work to the best of their abilities.
Last Saturday morning, our Chemical Titration Team competed in the National finals at the University of Queensland. The team performed excellently with Harry Lawrence, Nicolas Easey and Lewis Huxtable being awarded gold medals and the team coming fourth overall in Queensland. We have yet to receive the overall national results.
I recently received an email concerning Chris Stackpoole. Chris completed his senior studies in 2007 and chose a career in law. Chris had been awarded a Merton College Scholarship to study a Bachelor of Civil Law at Oxford University in 2017/2018. He recently completed the course as Dux and was awarded the Vinerian Scholar 2018. Whilst in Oxford, he was also awarded a scholarship to study Private International Law at The Hague Academy of International Law in August 2018. Before this success, Chris had completed a double degree in Law and Business at QUT, been awarded Dux of the course. He was awarded Tom Cain Award and the Prime Minister's Australasian Scholarship allowing him to study at Jiang Tao University in Shanghai and then at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. Chris had also been a Rhodes Scholarship finalist twice as well. Chris has just returned to Brisbane and we will hopefully be able to have him attend our Scholar’s Assembly at the beginning of next year. He is a wonderful example of a humble young man who worked hard at school and further extended himself when challenged at university. Chris was also involved in many service programs whilst at the College. It is always great to hear about what many of our young men achieve after they have left our gates.
Our senior students commence their block exams this Wednesday. It is most important that they are preparing for this assessment especially so soon after the QCS tests.
Last Thursday night our First XI Football team played against Kimberley College in the Uhlsport Cup final. Whilst our young men played as well as they could, Kimberley were a very good team and won the match 2-0. It has been a great effort to win their way through to the final and I congratulate all the players and coaching staff on a fine performance.
On Saturday we played our second last round of sporting fixtures against Iona College. Our junior teams played away, whilst our senior teams hosted Iona at home. Overall, we had some excellent competition against St Edmund’s College last weekend.
