Inside Scoop in Sport
Last week our Rugby 1st XV played strongly to record another win against the top of the table leaders Iona. They are now placed equal 1st. A positive result this weekend would see St Patrick’s record our first ever win in the 1st XV premiership. Football 1st XI played in the premiership deciding game against Iona, in what was an exciting game of Football, Iona unfortunately won 2-1. The Football team although upset with the result, can hold their heads high in putting up a tough spirited effort. Sport can be very cruel. Our 1st Footballers need to win on Saturday and a result to go their way to finish premiers. We need a big crowd of support at Padua to cheer on all teams, especially both 1st teams.
Basketball and Tennis sign-on has now been completed for Term 3 sport. Student attendance at Basketball trials will be very important to give students the best possible opportunity to be selected.
The Track and Field sign-on process has remained open as students are currently being recruited once the Rugby and Football school and club programs wind down. St Patrick’s will nominate five teams per age group to compete in the AIC competition as most other colleges only play A-D teams. Unfortunately, on the sign-on numbers, some students will miss selection.

Outstanding Student Achievements
At the Queensland School Squash Championships in Townsville last week Jack Hansen and Declan Cashman competed. Declan was named Captain of the team. He also played in the final for the third year in a row but unfortunately lost. Declan was again selected in the Queensland Team to play in Sydney in August. Well done to Jack and Declan.
The Metropolitan North Cross Country Championships were held Tuesday at St Paul’s School. Thirty-eight St Patrick’s students competed for both Bramble Bay (Year 5 and 6) and St Patrick’s. Matthew Moate 4th, Thonjot Mabor 7th and Jayden Morris 9th were our highest place getters in their respective age groups. Well done to all runners and good luck to our Metropolitan North representatives.
Dominic Anderson has been selected to represent Metropolitan North School Sport at the 12 Years Hockey Queensland School Sport State Championships to be held in Cairns. Well done and good luck to Dominic for the championships next week.
