Our proud and hardworking Paddies Gardeners have proven yet again that they can grow an excellent crop of vegetables! Over the weekend, they entered an enormous pumpkin into the The 2018 Royal Queensland Show, Heaviest Pumpkin Competition. The event, which is the longest running competition at the Ekka, attracts entries from all over the State.

Their hard work and persistence paid off and the pumpkin placed second in the school’s division, weighing in at a massive 8.5kgs! Mrs Hunt, the chief gardening guru has spent a lot of time with the boys, fertilising, weeding and giving the pumpkin lots of encouragement and support to grow.

As a school’s division entrant, it was only fitting that he wore his school tie and hat with pride.

Gardening tips from three of our regular gardeners (Zen, James and Jackson 5E)

  • Water the pumpkin daily
  • Provide the pumpkin with lots of fertiliser
  • Chop off any extra pumpkins on the vine, to give it the best chance to grow huge
  • Use encouraging, kind words when speaking to the pumpkin

They are looking forward to growing an even bigger pumpkin next year!
