Pesta Rakyat

To celebrate Indonesian Independence Day, the Indonesian Students Association in Queensland recently organised celebrations in Brisbane. The St Patrick’s Indonesian Club attended the festival, Pesta Rakyat, to learn about Indonesian culture and meet Indonesian people. During the day, they saw various dance and music performances plus joined in many activities including makan krupuk (prawn cracker eating), balap kurung (sack race) and bakiak (a twist on a three legged race).

Indonesian movie – Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What’s up with Cinta?)

Recently, six students in Years 10 - 12 Indonesian were able to attend the first showing in Australia of the Indonesian movie Ada Apa Dengan Cinta? (What’s up with Cinta?). The original movie Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?, was very popular and one of Indonesia’s highest grossing movies. The sequel, which opened in April this year, has become Indonesia’s highest grossing movie. The original movie is part of our movies and music unit in Year 10 Indonesian. We were able to sample some Indonesian food for lunch. Before the movie, we were introduced to two of the film’s star who travelled to Australia for the premiere, and stayed behind to listen to the short Q&A after the movie. The students really enjoyed the movie and liked revisiting the characters from the original movie.
