Next Tuesday, our Sports Awards ceremony for Football, Rugby and Confraternity Rugby League will be conducted in the Christian Brothers Building. Award winners have been contacted via email. All Community members are invited to the Assembly beginning at 9:35am. Award winners are requested to be in full formal uniform. Year 5 and 6 students should bring their HPE uniform to change into at the completion of the ceremony.

The first round of the Year 5 and 6 Basketball season begins tomorrow. We will be hosting St Laurence’s College. Students have been informed not to purchase a basketball uniform from the Uniform Shop until they have a confirmed position in a team. Students who don’t have a St. Patrick's College Basketball strip must wear their HPE shirt and shorts. Unfortunately, our maximum of four teams per year level may see a number of students miss selection. This is unfortunately unavoidable. Mr. Steve Copping, our Basketball coordinator, will endeavour to organise some lunch time competition games for students who miss selection.

Round One of the AIC Year 7-12 Basketball and Year 5-12 Tennis season begins on Saturday, 20 August. A full trial will be conducted next Saturday, 30 July against Iona College. Students are currently participating in trials. For further enquiries, please contact the relevant sports coordinator. Contact details are listed below.

Parents are reminded to be prompt to pick up for after school sports training sessions at St Patrick's College, Sandgate Tennis Centre and Boondall Entertainment Sports Complex.

The competition draw for Tennis and Basketball are available on the sports specific Connect pages and the St Patrick's College App. The Sports Department aim to upload this information as soon as possible each week. Usually the information can be accessed by Wednesday afternoon. Year 5 Basketball is played on Friday afternoon after school.

The Cross Country squad competed at Curlew Park last Saturday in a full AIC contested event. Mr Jackson Alves made comment of a number of very strong performances, especially Izaak Vaughan’s win in the U12 race. This Saturday is a very important race as the students get to race on the Limestone Park course in Ipswich. This is the venue for the AIC Championships. The bus departs St Patrick's College at 7am on Saturday morning from Pier Avenue. All runners are welcome to participate. Students should communicate their intention to attend with Mr. Toohey in the Library. There are only a few more training sessions now until the 6 August AIC Championships. The final team will be selected and presented during the Spirit Assembly on Tuesday 2 August.

During the Basketball season, the Sport Support Group would like to have the canteen in operation at the Callan Centre and the Christian Brothers Building. The Sport Support Group are looking for an individual or group to volunteer their services to assist with the running of this service for home games. All stock, ordering of food/drink, money float etc will be provided - we just need helpers. If you would like more information, please contact Matt Grinlaubs (Chair of Sport Support Group) for further information:

The Shorncliffe Shufflers (6:30am Sunday) run has shivered through a few cold mornings recently. All new runners welcome. Please meet in the Plaza area at 6:25am ready to run or walk.

Outstanding Student Achievements

Four St. Patrick's College students competed at a very muddy Maryborough Show Grounds on Sunday and Monday at the State Cross Championships. Our X-Men performed very strongly in the State in their age groups and lay claim to the following positions:

  • Sam Cleary 5th
  • Brock Roberts 13th
  • Alec Camplin 15th
  • Alex Migus 17th

Brock’s relay team won a bronze medal in the team’s event. Congratulation to these students and bring on 6 August AIC Cross Country Championships. See pictures below

Congratulations to Malakai Davis-Raeli, Seth Scholes and Jet Daly for being selected to compete at the upcoming U12 State Rugby Championships to be held on the Darling Downs in early August.

Izaak Vaughan recently toured Spain to compete in a number of football tournaments. He experienced training sessions at Real Madrid Academy, having access to their coaches and the Spanish National Team complex working with their coaches. Izaak played in two tournaments - Tournament Madrid and Donosti Cup - San Sebastian.

The Donosti Cup had over 7000 players, over 500 teams, from over 100 countries. Izaak played for Football Brisbane which was the representative team for Australia. Interestingly, many games were played on a synthetic surface. Adapting to the faster roll of the ball was a challenge!

Well done to Kian Milburn on his selection in the Metropolitan North U15 Basketball team to contest the State Championships on the Gold Coast in early August.
