This week in Culture there are updates from Chess, Co-Curricular Music, Debating, Theatresports and the Cultural Support Group.

Oliver the Musical

The Musical ‘Oliver’, produced by Squids Theatrical, will finish its season at the Redcliffe Cultural Centre on 4 June 2016. Two of our Year 6 students, Kyle Armstrong and Cooper Mitchell, are sharing the lead role as Oliver. Tickets are still available online - click here » to purchase.

AIC Chess

Last Friday saw more success for the Chessmen. Our last home game of the season saw our teams play magnificently against St Laurence’s College and score a 46 to 34 victory.

This week we take on our biggest challenge of the season, Marist College, Ashgrove. We wish all of our teams the best of luck.

Mark’s tip of the week: have a look at this website - Kenilworth Chess Club – Stonewall Attack (click here for link») for a great chess lecture and lots of games.

Music Performance Night

The music performance night, held last Monday, was a great success, showing a wide array of student talent within the College. Students are to be commended for their hard work both at rehearsals and at home practising their parts in preparation for the concert. We saw many of our ensembles perform as well as some striking solos and duets from enthusiastic students. It was also great to see some young beginner musicians shining throughout the night.

Term 3 will prove to be a busy one for all ensembles and it is obvious that we are well on our way towards finalising preparations for upcoming events. Thank you to all who made the music performance night possible: all of our music teachers, the student tech. support crew, Mrs Carmel Moir, Mr Geoff Samuels and the Cultural Support Group who had many hands on deck helping both backstage and with the pre-concert drinks and refreshments.

QDU Debating

The 12.1 debaters will be vying for a position in the QDU finals series tonight at St Patrick’s. The talented senior team will compete alongside the 12.2 and 10.1 teams in a round of challenging short preparation topics. Our Year 7 debating team kick off their season on 15 June with an enthusiastic group of students ready to introduce themselves to the sport under my guidance.
