The following competitions will be orchestrated by the SOSE Department in the coming weeks:

Australian History Challenge:

  • WHO? Year 10 History and SOSE (History) students
  • WHAT? National History Challenge
  • WHEN? May 25 (Week 7B, Wednesday during your scheduled History lesson); 45 minutes in length
  • WHERE? In your History classroom
  • WHY? To test your historical knowledge/understanding and skills in source analysis on a national level
  • HOW? Multiple choice style test paper, based on provided stimulus (evidence)

Australian Geography Competition:

  • WHO? Years 10, 11 and 12 Geography students
  • WHAT? Australian Geography Competition
  • WHEN? In class 16-27 May (your Geography teacher will give you your specific date); 35 minutes in length
  • WHERE? In your Geography classroom
  • WHY? To test your geographical knowledge/understanding and skills on a national level
  • HOW? Multiple choice style test paper, based on provided stimulus (evidence)

How can I prepare for this competition?

  • Extra revision based on your class work, and the activities provided in the textbook. Also, look ahead in your textbook at chapters and concepts that you haven’t yet covered in class
  • Talk to your teacher
  • Go to the relevant websites, and look at past papers, to get a feel for the types of questions:

What do I need to bring to the competition?

  • History – 2B pencil, eraser and sharpener
  • Geography – 2B pencil, eraser, sharpener and ruler

When will the results be issued?

  • Towards the end of Term 2, when all schools have completed the competition, and results have been collated
  • There may be an opportunity for you to sit the competition at another stage during the week. You will need to speak with Mrs Katerina Tilley to organise this.
