Last Friday saw our Chessmen compete in a trial match against Villanova. This was a great opportunity to prepare for the upcoming AIC season.
Our first match is a home game against Iona on Friday April 29. Teams will be announced on Wednesday and players MUST sign on before the end of school Thursday. Our season is looking strong as we have many players vying for team positions in each division.
Last month saw our 2nd Annual College Chess Championships. Our winners were: Junior Division – Fletcher Dudley (Year 6); Intermediate Division – River Brunsmann (Year 8); Senior Division – Matthew Pollard (Year 11). Congratulations to all who competed. It was fabulous to see so many keen players.
During the April school holidays some of our Chessmen competed at Nudgee College in a graded competition. We are extremely pleased with the efforts of those who competed and obtained some terrific results. Matthew Pollard and Nathaniel Lake were both victorious in their sections with Jake Baker coming in second and Abbed Akbery awarded a merit.
