Last Friday our Chessmen travelled to Padua to contest Round 2 of AIC. The boys were farewelled in fine fashion by the cheering, drums and flag waving of the Paddies Battalion.
It was a night of mixed success. Our Seniors played some hard fought and valiant games only to go down in the final moves. Our Juniors were magnificent leading the charge that helped to secure a drawn outcome.
This week we host St Peters Lutheran College in the Waterford Building. Our teams have been training hard in readiness for a challenging match. Spectators are welcome.

Inter- House Theatresports
The Annual Inter-House Theatresports competition wrapped up on Friday with the grand final between, Kennedy, O'Rourke and Ryan. The Waterford drama rooms were overflowing as the three Houses fought it out for the 2015 title. Each of the teams should be proud of their achievement, however there can only be one winner and for 2015 it was Kennedy House led by Youth Theatresports Captain, Matthew Southwell.
Many thanks to the staff who spent their lunch hours judging; Mr Hawkins, Mr Corfield, Ms Morgan and to past students Liam Spargo and Callum Butkus for taking time out of their own busy schedules to judge and support Theatresports at the College.
This week also marked the beginning of the Youth Theatresports competition with the Year 10 team; Ollie Blansjaar, Zevriel Ryall, Max Marson, Luis Butler and Doug McLachlan competing at Nudgee on Monday evening and the Year 12 team; Jesse Cooper, Lachlan Hogbin, James Anderson , Fionnagan McBride and Matthew Southwell competing on home ground on Tuesday evening. The Year 10 team was competitive, winning the
memorable moment, while the Year 12 team was successful in making it through to the quarter finals. Many thanks to Johannes Hoehensteiger for his coaching and leadership of the Year 10 team and to Liam Spargo and Marthy Watson for their continued leadership of the Year 12 team.
Best of luck to the Mixed Team and Year 11 Team in their upcoming heats.

QDU Debating News – Mrs Lorraine O'Sullivan - Debating Coordinator ( firstname.lastname@example.org)
Last night SPC hosted the Grade 10 and 12 teams in the QDU competition for their Round Three debate.
Our Grade 10 teams had the topic "That we regret media speculation about potential political leadership spills", while the Grade 12s had the secret topic "That dicatators should be banned from the United Nations." 12.1 had a comfortable win against St Columban's College and 12.2 and 10.2 narrowly beat their opponents. Unfortunately, our 10.2 team was just beaten by St Columban's. Congratulations to coaches Zoe Morgan, Jonathan Brough and Phil Webb on their debaters' performance.
The Grade 8 third round debate will be next week at 7.00pm on 20 May at St Paul's School. 8.1 will defend the proposition "That children spend too much time in front of screens."
The fourth round will begin on Thursday 28 May (State of Origin is on the Wednesday night) for Grade 9 and 11 teams. All teams except Grade 9 will have a secret topic debate in Round Four. The Grade 9 topic is "That we should ban public speeches and appearances by anti-vaccination advocates."
Grade 7 students who signed up for the QDU 2015 Junior Round Robin series had their first meeting yesterday with their coach Mr Luke Vanni. Two SPC teams have been entered into the competition, with the first debate occurring on Thursday 25 June with the topic "That schools are a waste of time". There is still a couple of places available in the teams. Contact Mrs O'Sullivan if you wish to be involved.
