TERM 3 - 2019: Acting Principal's Message

Thursday, 26 Sep 2019

Dear Members of the St Patrick’s College Community,

I hope that your young man (men) has had an enjoyable third term. Whilst the students have completed assessment tasks during this term, it is not our practice to produce a Term 3 Report. However, if you do have any queries regarding your son’s progress, I would encourage you to contact your son’s teacher(s) or other relevant College staff members. Please also review completed assessment and feedback on students’ progress via the progressive reporting, accessed via Realm.  An overall Semester 2 report will be published on-line through the Parent Portal on Friday 6 December.

Over the holiday period and final term, it is important that all families please check and update their son’s medical and parent contact information that is made available to our staff. This is accessed through the Parent Lounge on your REALM page. We wish to begin 2020 with updated and accurate information regarding our students and their families. Therefore, I ask that you please check these areas carefully and update where necessary by Friday, 18 October at the latest. Your prompt attention to this information would be greatly appreciated.

Whilst every term at school is an important term, Term 4 is a particularly important one for our young men in Year 12.  Whilst I invite all our students and their families to embrace Term 4 with enthusiasm and commitment, I particularly invite our Year 12 men to finish their final days of schooling in a manner that will make them, and the St Patrick’s community, proud.

The last term begins on Tuesday, 8 October at 8:30am and our expectation is that all students will return with the correct summer uniform (no tie for Years 5-10) and ensure that their personal appearance (haircut) is in accordance with the College Guidelines.

Staffing Changes

The following Staff will be on leave during Term 4:

  • Mr Paul Johnson Year 5 and will be replaced by Mrs Kaylene Campbell
  • Mr Michael Alvisio Year 6 and will be replaced by Mr Christopher Charnock
  • Mr Clinton Hall and will be replaced by Mr Sonny Ali
  • Mr Matthew Seers and will be replaced by Mr Ben Meerman
  • Mr Hoysted House Dean Role will be replaced by Mr Nicolas Consiglio and Classes for Term 4 by Mr Nicholas Schulper

I would like to inform the community that Mr Trent Sellars has tended his resignation and will not be returning to St Patrick’s College. Mrs Rebecca Harris has been appointed and will complete a Term 4 contract in the Religion and HASS area. We thank Mr Sellars for his contribution to the St Patrick’s College Community.

Over the course of this year, the College has provided a range of textbooks to students. At the end of the year, all students are required to return these so that they can be reallocated at the beginning of the 2020 academic year. When students fail to return their text books by the required time it causes great difficulty for our staff with the organisation and reallocation of books in the following year, so I ask for the support of all families to assist us by ensuring that all of your son’s textbooks and library books are returned to the College on the required date prior to the end of the school year.  We will forward this information and remind the students closer to the expected date of return.

At the end of this year, laptops will be collected from students in Years 6, 9 and 12. At this stage we are assessing if laptops from all other year levels need to be collected for maintenance and upgrades. This will be communicated during Term 4.

This means that laptops will need to be issued to students in Years 5, 7 and 10 next year. Rather than require families to come to the College earlier to collect the laptops, they will be allocated to the students on their first day of arrival at school.

Our Showcase night has always been a very popular event and each House is working very hard to ensure their performances will be memorable again this year. Showcase will be held on the night of Friday, 25 October beginning at 6:30pm.  As is usual practice, entry will be by gold coin donation and this money is given to the staff and students who will be travelling to India on their Immersion experience and used to support various institutions as a part of the legacy left by Fr Liam Horsfall.

Celebration of Excellence Evening

Celebration of Excellence Evening is scheduled for Friday, 1 November.  This is one of the major formal events of the year. It is a celebration and recognition of the academic, musical and choral achievements of many students at St Patrick’s. It is also an opportunity for the entire community, students, staff and parents, to congratulate and thank our Year 12 cohort for their wonderful contribution to our community over this year. It is an expectation that all Year 12 students attend this night. Indeed, all members of the St Patrick’s College community are invited to attend this special night and celebrate with us.

Graduation / Farewell Assembly

The Year 12 Farewell Assembly and Graduation Mass and Dinner is another significant event on the College calendar.  The Farewell Assembly will be on Monday, 4 November. It is an opportunity for the students and staff to say thank you and farewell our young men in Year 12. It is also an opportunity for the parents of our Year 12 students to attend their last Assembly with their son. In many cases, this may also be the last College Assembly for parents. The Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner will be held on the night of Thursday, 14 November.

AIC Track & Field

All students in Years 7 and 11 will travel to QSAC Stadium on Friday, 25 October to support the athletes at the AIC Track and Field Championships.

Year 10 Term 4

Please note that due to our ongoing transition to the new QCE, there is no formal exam block for the current Year 10 group. This ensures maximum teaching time is retained as many subjects are beginning unit one material during Term 4, and therefore all students of Year 10 will attend scheduled classes up until the last day of term. There will be some exams in the last week of term, please refer to the Term exam timetable on REALM when it becomes available.

Tri-mester 3 Awards Assembly

The final of the Co-Curricular Awards Assemblies will be held on Tuesday, 29 October commencing at 8.40am.  This Assembly will acknowledge the success and achievements of the current co-curricular period.

Yours sincerely

Mr Frank Torrisi
