Jackson Hughesman, Leading on Stage

Tuesday, 16 Feb 2021

The Australian Performing Arts Teachers Association (APATA) National Awards Program shines a light on our community’s most inspirational performing arts educators and students celebrating achievement and contribution. The Performing Arts Student of the Year Award acknowledges the achievements of students. It takes courage to create and share with the world your art form, dedication to practice and perseverance to refine technique and skill. The award recognises those developing their skills and technique, unique talent, artistic quality, and dedication in their performing arts discipline.

St Patrick’s College is proud to announce that we have nominated Jackson Hughesman for this prestigious award. Jackson has made a significant contribution to his craft as well as become a mentor and leader in the school program. While Jackson loves working on stage, he is equally satisfied working behind the scenes, including the areas of publicity, stage management and even taking the role of assistant director in our latest school junior musical. Currently in Year 11, Jackson works hard in all his subjects, and received the 2020 Dux of Drama. Jackson plans to study Musical Theatre at Griffith University with the career goal of becoming a professional performer. Last year, Jackson wrote his own Christmas Musical ‘Underneath The Tree’ which was produced by the Brisbane Musical Theatre Company, with Jackson performing the role of ‘Hunter’.

In 2020, Jackson was awarded the Gold Palm Theatre Awards - Jock and Beverly McIiwain Special Encouragement Award, winning the $2,000 prize, and was named St Patrick’s College Singer of the Year.

While Jackson has a considerable theatre career already under his belt and a number of prestigious awards, he is now preparing to play the lead role of Gomez alongside his College brothers, in our school musical production of The Addam’s Family. Acting Head of Culture Ms Albury says “Jackson is not only an extremely talented singer, actor and composer, he also works extremely hard to improve these skills and mentor others.”
