Year 10 Blazer Ceremony: A Milestone of Purpose and Identity
Our Year 10 cohort recently gathered with their families, staff, and members of the College community to mark a significant milestone in their St Patrick’s College journey—the presentation of the Senior Blazer.
The Year 10 Blazer Ceremony is not simply about issuing a new item of uniform but rather recognising the next step in each student’s journey from boyhood to young adulthood, helping to shape their sense of purpose and identity.
The blazer itself represents far more than fabric. The College Crest embodies over 74 years of history, reflecting generations of young men, families, and community who have built the reputation our students now inherit. To wear it is to accept that legacy and the responsibility that comes with it.
For our Year 10 students, this evening marks an important transition. Expectations rise, responsibility deepens, and character matters more than ever. The cohort was reminded that leadership at the College is not defined by titles, but by everyday actions—showing integrity, demonstrating courage, and choosing service over self-interest. The message was clear: the blazer does not make you a leader; it calls you to be one.
Parents were also acknowledged as vital partners in this journey. College Principal Mrs Amber Hauff noted that, as students move into the Senior years, the partnership between home and school becomes increasingly important in supporting independence, reinforcing high standards, and guiding young men as they grow in maturity and self-management.
Director of Identity and Formation, Ms Kate Mulvihill, reflected on the depth of the cohort’s journey through The Rite Journey, affirming the growth, challenge, and self-awareness developed along the way. Her message, “Yo te veo. I see you,” captured the significance of the moment, reminding students that this ceremony is not a beginning, but a continuation. The question is no longer Who am I becoming? but What will I do with who I am becoming?
Class of 2003 Old Boy Mr Brendan Caughey further strengthened this connection to the College’s legacy, sharing reflections on the enduring impact of a St Patrick’s College education and the values that continue to shape Old Boys long after they leave the College gates.
The evening culminated in a powerful and unified moment, as the cohort stood shoulder to shoulder against the backdrop of the grand Morven building to deliver a moving rendition of The Call. It is these moments that give deep meaning to what it is to be a young man of St Patrick’s College.
Certa Bonum Certamen – Fight the Good Fight.
We are incredibly proud of this cohort as they step into their Senior years. May they wear the blazer with pride and humility, honour the legacy before them, and continue to grow as Men of Action in all that they do.
