The College Crest was designed in 1952 by Brother Saward who was one of the four
Brothers on the first College Staff and our College Technology Centre is named
in his honour. This is how Brother
Saward explains the meaning behind the Crest:
SHAPE
The Crest is shaped like a shield.
This makes us think that what the school teaches should shield/protect us
through life.
CROSS
This reminds us that we are a Catholic school and that we try to use Christian
principles in our living.
RAYS
The rays coming from the Cross make us think of Christ’s example and of the
example St Patrick’s students give to others by their good citizenship.
BATTLEMENTS
Below the Cross are “battlements” to remind us that to live a good life can be a
struggle. They are also shaped like
a Bishop’s special hat: this is
because Archbishop Duhig opened the College in 1952 and was a very good friend
to the school in its early days.
MOTTO
“Certa
Bonum Certamen” is the College motto.
It is Latin for “Fight the Good Fight”.
The motto was selected by the first Headmaster, Brother Coffey.
