 Walking to Curlew Park Procedures

Boys who elect to walk from the College to Curlew Park for training are strongly expected to walk in a group in an orderly manner dressed in their SPC day uniform. Senior boys (Year 10 -12) are also expected to assist with the supervision of the ‘Junior School’ boys on days when there is not a designated Year 12 Leader to escort the junior boys.
Boys are to change into training gear (sports uniform where appropriate) once they have arrived at Curlew Park. Boys who have partaken in physical education/sporting activity throughout the day may walk to Curlew Park in their Sporting Uniform.

Year 5 and Year 6 boys are encourage to wait at the ‘College Tuckshop Gates’ at 3.00pm and walk to Curlew Park under the supervision of one or more of the elected Year 12 Leaders.  Below is outlined the best route for all boys.

You are to move at best speed in the safest and most appropriate manner at all time
  • Exit St Patrick's College via Canteen Gate;
  • Walk down Twamley St avoiding car and property;
  • Turn Left into Signal Row and walk on the opposite side of the park;
  • Cross Yundah St (at crossing) and continue to walk down on the Shorncliffe State School side of Signal Row;
  • Via left at Friday St towards pedestrian crossing;
  • Cross Friday St at Shorncliffe State School at the controlled pedestrian crossing;
  • Walk down the Cabbage Tree Creek side of Friday St and cross Palm St at the corner shop.  Friday St becomes Rainbow St at this point;
  • Continue along Rainbow St and cross Beatham St;
  • Continue along Rainbow St and cross Fulham St;
  • Continue along Rainbow St and turn left into Curlew St.  Be aware of oncoming traffic and traffic from behind you;
  • Continue along Curlew St and cross railway line.  Please obey all Queensland Railway crossing signals; and
  • Continue along Curlew St and right into Curlew Park carpark.

 Wet Weather Procedures

The College provides you the following option when dealing with wet weather or cancellations:

Junior and Secondary Sports Information Line is 36319080. This line is ‘live’ and will be updated as often as required. Decisions on training status (poor weather) will be made at Lunchtime.  Please check for the status of sport as often as possible (after 2.30pm on training days).  For Saturday sport, the line will be amended by 7.00 am after consultation with opposition school sports masters and college grounds staff.

As a ‘golden rule’, unless the Cricket has been called off you should make the effort to get to the venue and let the umpires or coaches make the decision to call the fixture off.  Just because it is raining or has rained where you live does not mean that it is raining or has rained at another College’s ovals.  The respective Association By-Laws allow for play to be delayed due to poor weather.

It is asked that all parents firstly used the Sports Information Line to obtain any ‘up to date’ changes on training and game status. We ask that you only contact the College’s Student Office or Main Office only if the matter is urgent.
