St Patricks College 2008 Invitational Triathlon > FAQ's

1. How safe is the event, particularly for junior students?

The course has been designed with safety as a priority. The swim leg is shallow with several lifesavers present in the water. The bike leg has been checked in regards to road surface, lane width, potential hazards, and will be fully signed with 15 course marshals spread throughout. As well, a full road closure will be in progress through out the event. The run course provides further marshals and hydration stations. The entire event will be overseen by officials from Australian Sports Medicine. Safety inspections on participant equipment are undertaken before the start of the event. Thorough risk management regimes have been met and convincingly passed.

2. What equipment is required by competitors?

Each competitor must have the following to be able to enter the event:

- Swim clothing

- Bike clothing including upper body apparel

- A bike that meets the safety inspection (see FAQ 3)

- An Australian Safety Approved bike helmet

- Shoes for cycling

- Run clothing including upper body apparel

- Appropriate running shoes

Advisable: sun cream, water bottle and running hat.

3. How can I ensure my bike meets the safety inspection requirements?

To pass the safety inspection each participant’s bike must be in workable order. This means straight wheels, well oiled chain, frame in reasonable condition. Key areas to address are: first, ensure your handle bars are plugged on both sides; second, ensure handle bars and seat are tightly screwed into place; third, ensure tyres are pumped up and in good condition; fourth, ensure brakes are working correctly.
